Wastewater is tested at numerous locations before it reaches the ocean and then the ocean environment is tested repeatedly in various locations. The District tests for over 100 substances total, including several forms of bacteria. Tests are conducted:

  • in the treatment plant
  • during the treatment process
  • as wastewater leaves the plant
  • as wastewater is discharged form the outfall pipeline
  • an array of additional test stations are deployed from the shoreline out to the deep ocean
