Expanded Water Reuse

The image shows a series of purple pipes and valves, likely part of a water treatment or distribution system, under clear skies.

In 1994, the District partnered with the Goleta Water District to build and operate the region’s first water reclamation facility. To date more than 8.5 billion gallons of water have been recycled for irrigation use in the western Goleta Valley.

The District continues to work closely with the Goleta Water District to find ways to maximize the use of recycled water. In 2017, the Goleta Water District released a potable reuse facilities plan to identify potential ways to expand water reuse and to evaluate the feasibility of treating wastewater beyond current treatment levels to produce potable (drinking) water. To meet the near-term and long-term needs of the community at the lowest possible cost.
